The Esports World Cup is the biggest multi-discipline event of the year, and CS2 is one of its headline titles. Sixteen teams reached the playoffs, and from there it's a straight bracket: round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and a BO5 grand final. Lose and you go home, which is why even the round of 16 produced a couple of blowouts.

Round of 16 results: who went out
All eight elimination matches:
- G2 — Astralis 2:1, the Danes are out.
- FURIA — Aurora 2:1, the Brazilians came back from 3-9 on the decider.
- FUT — magic 2:1.
- MOUZ — GamerLegion 2:1, GamerLegion threw away a 2-10 lead on the decider.
- Legacy — NAVI 2:0 — the biggest beating of the stage.
- Falcons — The MongolZ 2:0, the major champions move on without dropping a map.
- Vitality — FaZe 2:0.
- Spirit — B8 2:0.
NAVI took it hardest: analyst kassad said flatly that Legacy dominated them in every aspect, and after the match even Zeus was asking why the roster changes never came.
EWC 2026 quarter-final results
The stage was completed on 21 August, and two of the four results went against expectations:
- FURIA — G2 2:1 (Ancient 13:3, Anubis 3:13, Dust II 13:4).
- FUT — MOUZ 2:0 (Dust II 16:13, Ancient 13:5) — the former NAVI Junior core passed NAVI itself in the VRS ranking with this win.
- Legacy — Falcons 2:0 (Mirage 13:7, Dust II 13:10) — the major champions are out.
- Spirit — Vitality 2:1 (Anubis 13:11, Nuke 14:16, Mirage 13:3) — Spirit beat Vitality for the first time since 2024.

The semi-finals are played on 22 August: FURIA — FUT at 17:00 and Legacy — Spirit at 19:55 Moscow time. The grand final is on 23 August at 14:30 as a BO5.
Who is leading the MVP race
m0NESY is out in front with a rating of 1.65. donk is right behind him after a 2.43 map rating against B8 on Dust II, with MOUZ's kyousuke close by. On the latter's progress karrigan put it briefly: "I only created the conditions for him."
donk's record deserves its own line. In round 11 against B8 he dragged out a situation so dead that the system credited him with a Round Swing of +124.78% — a measure of how far one player flipped the team's chances in a single round.
Who is favoured in the semi-finals
Before the quarter-final ZywOo sized up the opponent honestly — "Right now Spirit are a little stronger than us" — and he was right: Vitality went out in three maps. Spirit now look like the tournament favourite, even though sh1ro had admitted the team "has problems in its game" and doesn't lean on donk alone. Legacy, meanwhile, knocked out NAVI and Falcons in two days — nobody gets to underrate them now.
