The CS2 map pool changed: on 6 July 2026, together with the new Premier season, Cache came back and Overpass went to the bench. For some that's a classic returning, for others it's their best map gone. Here's what changed, who benefits from the rotation and where to drill Cache before it shows up in your ranked queue.

Cache was playable with us before it returned to the official pool — you could run it in CS2 custom matches all along.

What the CS2 map pool looks like now

The rotation touched a single slot: Cache took Overpass's place. The rest of the pool stayed as it was, so there's no need to relearn everything — one map is enough. As caster RachelR pointed out, the pool once again holds the old "golden three": Mirage, Dust II and Cache.

When Cache returned to the map pool

The swap was announced in late June and went live on 6 July 2026, alongside the start of the new Premier season. FACEIT marked the occasion in style: for the first two days, until 8 July, only Cache was available on the platform, and wins paid 5 extra ELO. An efficient way to make everyone remember their smokes at once.

Why Overpass was removed and who gains

The rotation got plenty of discussion and opinions split. Analyst dusT called the swap a hit on Vitality: Overpass was one of the best maps for them and for FURIA. Mauisnake looked at it from the other side — in his words Cache "brings us closer to the Falcons era", because Overpass was exactly the map the Falcons kept banning. Take away their permaban and the veto phase at the top changes shape.

How to prepare for Cache

The map is old, but years out of the pool faded it even for players who grew up on it. A simple order of work:

  1. Rebuild the geometry — where mid sits, how A gets taken through Squeaky, what B plays like.
  2. Relearn the utility — on Cache a single accurate smoke often decides the whole round.
  3. Drill after-plant situations: retake gives you a dozen of them in the time one ranked game takes.
  4. Check your duel angles — Cache is in the DUELS pool too.

The Cache smoke that swings rounds

One thing worth bookmarking: pros singled out a specific Cache smoke — chopper said the grenade literally changes round outcomes, and Supra backed him up. The point is simple: on Cache fights are often settled not by aim but by who cut the line off with smoke first.

Where to practise Cache right now

On CYBERSHOKE the map lives across several modes: custom matches, duels and retake — and in May we brought the graffiti back to it, so it looks the way it should. Build your own lobby and grind utility with friends from the custom matches page, and the full mode list is on the CS2 page.
